Who is eligible for STEP? How do I apply?

To be eligible for STEP, prospective interns must satisfy the following required qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent 
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instruction in English 
  • Enrolled at Riverland Community College or University of Minnesota Rochester, UM-R Students must enroll in UMR course: CLI 4394 for 2 credits

The following qualifications are preferred: 

  •   Prior laboratory experience
  •   Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail
  • Open to eligible University of Minnesota Rochester and Riverland Community College students

  • Intern at The Hormel Institute for up to two consecutive semesters

  • Gain hands-on biomedical research experience

  • Apply knowledge learned through coursework to a research setting
