University of Minnesota Rochester and Riverland Community College students can spend up to two semesters gaining firsthand biomedical research experience at The Hormel Institute.

Who is eligible for STEP? How do I apply?

To be eligible for STEP, prospective interns must satisfy the following required qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent 
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instruction in English 
  • Enrolled at Riverland Community College or University of Minnesota Rochester, UM-R Students must enroll in UMR course: CLI 4394 for 2 credits

The following qualifications are preferred: 

  •   Prior laboratory experience
  •   Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail
